GPHPS preserves the story of the Chehaw /Combahee Historic District — Indigenous homelands, rice fields built by enslaved labor, the 1863 Combahee Raid that freed more than 700 people. We honor the Gullah Geechee descendants whose language, foodways, music, and craft still shape the Lowcountry today.
Established in 2025, GPHPS honors the layered history of the Chehaw / Combahee Historic District and the Gullah Geechee descendants whose culture still shapes the Lowcountry. We are based in Colleton County, South Carolina, and welcome members, volunteers, and storytellers from anywhere this history touches.
